Now in the 9th year, Tom's Barbers Shop has built-up an enviable reputation for providing an excellent service, set in one of the most comfortable and interesting shops around.
Long gone are the old fashioned chairs, tabloid newspapers and a crackly radio. Tom has replaced these with easy chairs, The Times, a huge range of music on the CD player (but mainly blues), books and comics, games for the kids, and a huge bird cage.
"I set up my shop based on the type of shop that I would like to have to wait in for 20/30 minutes before having my haircut (having dropped the wife and kids off to go shopping)."
There's a quiz, postcards and currency from clients' overseas trips on the wall, by the cutting chair, to pass the time, if you don't want him to "rabbit on" about his views (but no religion, politics & very little football)
Tom's views on barbers shops -
"a good barbers shop should be one where there is a good, warm, friendly atmosphere, quality chat & not just "going on holiday this year?", a place where it is a pleasure to sit, wait and relax before the haircut.
"I have tried to create this in my shop, and judging by comments (and return visits) from customers it seems to be working.
"The haircut is only a part of the overall experience. Pasquale, my mentor, a barber in Amsterdam, taught me that the cut is but a piece of the jigsaw - an important part - but still only a part."
Tom has got 18 of his clients together & formed The Barbers Investment Club, where they put in a regular amount each month and buy & sell shares. "It's important to create a gentlemans club atmosphere, & not simply 'in and out as quick as possible'."
Evesham is a small market town, some 30 miles south of Birmingham - England, on the edge of The Cotswolds. Bridge Court is situated at the bottom of Bridge Street (river Avon end), and is a delightful courtyard with other specialist shops, including a beauty salon, vinyl record shop & ladies fashions, design business and a friendly coffee shop and luncheon restaurant.
